HONOURING THE CZECH AVIATION
We are pleased to introduce the first new product of this year, the limited edition PRIM AVIATIK. This one-of-a-kind edition is heralding the celebration of the year 2019, where ELTON hodinářská celebrates two significant anniversaries.
Seventy years ago, Nové Město nad Metují witnessed the opening of a new branch of the state enterprise Chronotechna, tasked to develop and manufacture wristwatches. In 1969, the plant gained independence and changed its name to ELTON.
PRIM AVIATIK L.E. 50 PCS
Watches and aviation have gone hand in hand for more than 100 years. Particularly during the early times, when measuring the flight duration was vital, watches were indispensable. Even though often planes came with a dashboard clock, a watch was the pilot’s backup timekeeper. The 50-piece limited edition PRIM AVIATIK honours the Czechoslovak aviation.
The design takes after easy-to-read aviator watches, which are symbolic for the “planes people”. The font used on the indices is reminiscent of ones used on historical PRIM models.
The titanium case contains a specially modified mechanical movement PRIM kal. 93-1 with manual winding. The case back has a stainless-steel insertion with an engraved silhouette of the plane Letov Š-2, which was the first army aircraft to be mass-produced in newly-founded Czechoslovakia. The prototype of this plane was built in 1919, which is exactly 100 years ago. The writing ‘Vzduch je naše moře’ is situated on the outside of the case back. It is the motto of Czechoslovak aviation used for promoting flying in period press. It translates to English as ‘The sky is our sea’.
The watchmakers from ELTON hodinářská traditionally equip the limited editions of PRIM watches with some new technology or design features. PRIM AVIATIK is no exception. It offers a two-tone embedded rotating bezel with a 24-hour dial. A fourth hand can tell another time zone, e.g. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). PRIM AVIATIK is also the first PRIM watch ever designed with two crowns. The second crown with the rotating propeller pictogram moves the embedded dial.
The hour hand carries the image of the badge used by the pilots of the Czechoslovak army from 1923 until shortly after the Second World War. It first gained recognition when worn by acrobatic pilots representing Czechoslovakia on international competitions in the 1930s, and later by pilots who left the country during the occupation to fight in France, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. The same graphic is on the pin included in the special package of the limited edition.
The extraordinary design of PRIM AVIATIK salutes the early aviator watches, clean and intelligible.
